About Us
Owners Mingo Tull and Roseann Natale are residents of Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens since 1953 to present! They first opened Musician’s General Store (a full line – music retail business) in October 1993 as a result of Mingo’s desire to create a business uniquely his own. Having a professional career as a musician and always experiencing a really tough time getting to music stores for simple accessories far into Brooklyn or NYC, he realized that this was his “aha” moment and found his niche!
Meanwhile, his partner Roseann was working full time at Met Life Insurance and studying art & design after work. Combining their talents they decided to open a Music Retail store that would also act as an artists networking and socializing destination for the neighborhood. Inspired by the communal nature of the Old West, Roseann meticulously designed the company’s visuals in the style of a classic western General Store. That year, Mingo and Roseann opened their first location — (a 250 square-foot) Musical Instruments and Accessories store at 192 Amity Street in Brooklyn.
Throughout the many years, the store had moved 3 different times, expanded to two locations and had gone exclusively virtual during the Covid 19 pandemic. Undeterred, Mingo and Roseann bravely added new divisions to the company; Rock’Scool Brooklyn – a school for music education and Metropolis Entertainment – a live events production subsidiary.
While much has changed with their business and the neighborhood, Mingo and Roseann’s music school continues to be a thriving and vital part of Downtown Brooklyn’s local music community! We urge and welcome everyone to come by and visit; both Roseann and I would love to meet you!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
No, not at all. We pride ourselves in teaching many genres of music like Classical, Jazz, Blues, R&B, Pop, Bluegrass, and Country.
Our program has some similarities in which we combine students to play together in a band-like environment. Where we differ is that we provide lessons with multi-lingual teachers in Spanish, French and Italian. As mentioned above, we teach all genres of music and not just Rock & Roll. Also there is no obligation to take private lessons along with your group/ensemble class.
We urge all of our students to accept theory along with hands on instruction. That said, one is not obligated to.
We understand that many of our students come directly from school or work so we do supply keyboards, electric and acoustic guitars, electric basses, Banjos, Mandolins, violin and viola (not all sizes available).
No, not as a normal option. However, under certain conditions and circumstances we will consider it.
Practice rooms are available for solo rehearsals when not in use. Please call ahead for information and to reserve a room.
